Troy Coleman, 22,in custody on narcotics and firearms charges, was arraigned Wednesday on several charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit murder and criminal use of a firearm. His brother, Tyshawn Coleman, 19, was arraigned on similar charges Monday in the same shooting. Tyshawn Coleman was already in prison awaiting trial on charges in a different shooting in May.
The Coleman brothers, both of whom police identified as leaders of the "AVE" gang, shot two members of rival gang Money Green/Bedrock on Albany Avenue on July 4, court records say.James Brown, 18, and Jakeem Tully, 15, were shot in retaliation for the fatal shooting of fellow AVE member Anthony Alexander, 21, that same night. Brown suffered several life-threatening wounds and is now confined to a wheelchair for life, court records say. Although Tully escaped with a minor wound, he was shot and killed about two weeks later not far away on Albany Avenue.Police have not identified the shooters in the deaths of Alexander and Tully.Alexander was killed on his 21st birthday while sitting in his car on Edgewood Street. Tully, a home-schooled student who was excited about turning 16 and getting his driver's license, was shot blocks from his home on Green Street.
