Police are seeking witnesses after two men were fatally shot Sunday afternoon during a brawl involving several people in an alley off Del Amo Boulevard. The unidentified victims were among two groups of alleged gang members who met up near Cherry Avenue and Del Amo about 2 p.m., said Long Beach police Officer Jackie Bezart. "At some point in the altercation, shots were fired from one of the groups into the other, striking two men in that second group," Bezart said. One victim died at the scene, and another died at a local hospital. Police did not release suspect information Sunday night. The alley is adjacent a gas station and a grocery store that Bezart said were both busy with people Sunday afternoon. "It's very likely that because of the time of the day and the public location, somebody saw something that could help detectives solve this case," Bezart said. "We're going to need the public's assistance on this one." Detectives were also reportedly checking with local business owners for surveillance camera footage that may provide more leads.
The victims' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
